Signs of a True Church (Titus 1:5-9)

How does the Church define and find its leadership?

It is through the blessings of God in Christ Jesus, men of a blameless quality are to be found.  The standard is set high in the Epistle to Titus to exclude those who may live lives which appear to be well ordered, even blessed by God, so upon examination the foundation of their lives might be found, and the question answered, “what is it they HOLDFAST to, upon which they cleave?”  If they appear to be good family men, and have upstanding reputations in the community, but are found lacking in the love of God’s instruction and the sound doctrines (teachings) which Christ taught the Apostles, Paul included, then they are disqualified as Elders.

By extension, any Church which lessens the standard which Christ established, and which Paul, Peter, and John exhort in all their instructions delivered to the Church, that Church is lacking or to say it another way, it is NOT a true church of Jesus Christ.
