Today we look at the first Psalm in Second Book of the Psalms, comprising Psalms 42-72. Nineteen of the 31 songs are focused upon lamentation dealing with sorrows, consistently pointing to God as their Salvation.
Psalm 42 provides us with a look at the struggles and complaints with which David and others of God’s people struggled. Modern study bibles most likely provide a heading to Psalm 42 like “Hope in God in the Midst of Despair” or “Yearning for God in the Midst of Distresses”. These are accurate if understated headings.
Psalm 42 deals with the directive or command to Hope upon God! This theme is repeated twice in vv 5, 11. “Hope for Salvation Before God”
