Asking for What is Sufficient (Matthew 6:5-13 v11)

In this instruction for prayer, there is not only the model for praying, but the outline which instructs us to seek what is sufficient.  Matt 6:9-10 form the first three petitions, focusing on the holiness of our heavenly father ensuring we see him and supplicate him in accordance with his status and position.  To awaken a childlikeness in us, as a child might seek something from their father’s hand, only we seek all things from the heavenly hand of our Holy Father, to whom we can expect everything sufficient to preserve us body and soul. (Heidelberg Catechism Questions 120,122).  As we think of our Holy Father we seek Love, Mercy, Justice, and Truth, which are the foundation of His revealed nature.  So we come seeking the blessings of His Holiness, which he alone can impart to us through Christ Jesus’ work and shed blood on our behalf.  This picture leads us to answer the question which v11, “Asking for What is Sufficient” which is our sermons title this morning.
